"Blackfriars Restaurant is classed as the oldest purpose built dining room in the UK with its origins dating back to 1239. Traditional British cooking at its best using local, seasonal produce often direct from local farm markets, to serve up a real taste of the North East. Black Friars is open for lunch and dinner, special occasions and famous medieval banquets. Forget the recession get dressed up and treat yourself the food is gorgeous!"

"Did you know that Newcastle has it’s very own China Town - a street dedicated to Chinese Restaurants, supermarkets and craft shops? My ultimate favourite is the Landmark Restaurant and the King Neptune."

General Manager

"If you think Newcastle is all about nightlife, then think again. With only a short metro ride away, Blue Reef aquarium in Tynemouth is a great family day out. There’s over 40 themed habitats to see making it not only fun but educational too. It’s ideal location allows you to finish your day relaxing on the beach with traditional fish and chips."

"Did you know that you can go to a live music venue just about every night of the week with the 02 Academy only 5 minutes walk away with bands from Blondie to Wheatus, there is something on nearly every night of the week. The venue is a beautiful historic venue which started life as a music hall. Boasting a magnificent auditorium with original features in the ceiling and stairways and balcony, it really is a dramatic and atmospheric space and not only that you can stand and drink whilst listening to the concert.

The Cluny by Newcastle Quayside is now recognised as one of the most important venues for breaking bands in the region and a natural outlet for mid-range underground national and international touring bands.

The Metro Radio Arena, The City Hall and the Sage Gateshead are venues for our larger acts such as Whitney Houston and Michael Buble."

General Manager

"If you are lucky enough to have tickets to one of Newcastle United’s matches then I would recommend you start the day with one of their tours; the tour takes you on an up close journey of all areas of St James Park including changing rooms, the pitch and the tunnel where the players will walk out only minutes later.

I would recommend you finish the tour in NINE - Sports Bar and Lounge - it is a top notch day!"

Maintenance Manager

"Take a short drive or metro ride east of Newcastle towards the coast to North Shields and walk down the hill to the Fish Quay. Make sure you're hungry when you arrive as the aroma of freshly cooked fish and chips is more than tempting! Pop in to Christians’ which is a long established fish and chip restaurant and take away. We grabbed a take away and sat by the river and watched the boats which had only recently landed the fish we were eating....delicious, try some!"

Deputy Manager

"Newcastle’s Quayside was once a busy shipbuilding industry, fast forward nearly 100 years and is now one of the places to be in England. I love to spend my time off down the quayside watching the world go by. Whether you are looking for a night in or a night out, quiet or busy the quayside has something for pretty much everyone from the Sage music hall, Baltic Art Museum and let’s not forget the magnificent Tyne, Swing and Millennium bridges"

Reservations & Groups Manager

"This free museum is a great morning or afternoon out for kids especially on a wet day and it is situated right behind the hotel. I have visited many times when I have been given nieces and nephews for the day and it keeps them really entertained. The collection is science, social history and industry of the region and it’s not as dull as it sounds. There’s loads of interactive stuff and dressing up opportunities and a play area for the smaller ones. The cafe is good but a bit pricey though there is an area for eating your own packed lunches"

"When I am lucky enough to be in Newcastle city for the evening we head to Sachins Restaurant, Sachins is an Indian Restaurant whose motto is “art of eating well Punjabi Style”, which is certainly correct. Should you wish to go, please ensure you book ahead as they can be busy even on Monday nights. Each time we have been we have opted for the set banquet, the Sachins Tandoori starter – an assortment of five tandoori dishes and the peshwari Nann which are to die for and my mouth is watering just writing this! If you are a lover of Indian or spicy cuisine then this is an absolute must."

Sales Manager

"I would recommend a visit to the castle keep. My partner and I went in the summer which is a time I would highly recommend. There is fantastic views of Newcastle and you can also read about the history of “the Newcastle”, it is good value for money and you can take some fantastic pictures of Newcastle’s landmarks afterwards take a stroll down the Quayside for a wide selection of restaurants and bars."

"If you’re in Newcastle and fancy trying something different for food, St Sushi (Japanese) is the place to go, it’s got great choice even if you don’t like Sushi they do noodle dishes and curry dishes and a gorgeous to die for – “deep fried tempura” - ice cream wrapped in a pancake then deep fried! The service is great and surroundings are nice and relaxed.

"Blue Coyote is a Mexican restaurant 15 minutes walk away from the hotel, the service is also great here. The restaurant is great for large group bookings or smaller intimate bookings, the cocktails are delicious and the food has been absolutely fab every time I’ve been."
